I started this blog because I knew nothing about money. I knew I could make money by working a regular job but I didn’t know what it meant to have money. I knew even less on what to DO with my money. I was completely unconcerned with things like financial freedom, investing, goals and a plan of action to get out of the rat race. Heck, I didn’t even know what the rat race was!!
I grew up in a home where talking about money was taboo. My family talked about almost everything EXCEPT money. Even the friends I talked to didn’t know much about money. It just seemed to be that hush-hush subject that no one wants to talk about. So I decided to publicly post my quest for financial freedom online.
This blog is about my personal path to financial freedom. How I earn money, how I spend it, how I save it and most of all how it makes me more money. I have been publicly tracking my financial freedom since late 2008. I’m still new to the game of “putting it out there for all to see,” but you can check out my net worth and other financial journeys that I take as I grow in the understanding of financial freedom. The net worth that is posted is for both my husband and me. I realized very early in our marriage that if it was to be successful we had to share everything. My money = his money = our money. Now, he has his play money just like I do but the net worth is for both of us. Since I plan on retiring with him in our ‘old’ age I felt I should enjoy the journey with him now.
I am 27 years old and live just outside the DC area with my husband, son and 2 dogs. Currently both my husband and I work full time jobs but we both would love to work because we want to, not because we have to. The ultimate goal is to make enough passive income so we can explore the world.
I don’t claim to be a financial expert in any way. I am just open about my finances and how I improve them. I am constantly learning new things about money and how to use it. If I mess up I’ll post it here so that others can learn from my mistakes. If I learn something new, cool or interesting I’ll post it for everyone to benefit. Maybe one day, when we have all reached financial freedom I’ll see you somewhere around the globe.
